I have an idea for a pumpkin family that runs a pumpkin patch. But I have a few things I feel weird about if I were to do that...

I don't want my earth pony family to be associated with any existing characters in the show.
I might just make an AU and have the Pumpkins as my version of the Apples. But a lot of work would have to go into making an AU. I would need to make different versions of all the canon characters, including the Alicorns. I'm a little hesitant to actually make Alicorn OCs, even if it's for an AU...
I need your thoughts on this. If I make an AU, not only will there be alternate versions of canon
